Therapists at Shawnee PARC Wellness are trained and certified in a wide range of alternative pain treatments including Massage Therapy, Kinesio Taping, Cupping, and Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
Kinesio Taping
Kinesiology Therapeutic (KT) tape is used to support and relieve pain in muscles, joints, and/or ligaments. It reduces swelling, increases mobility and enhances recovery. KT Tape can be used to prevent or treat many common muscle and joint related injuries including: sprains, muscle strains, subluxations, and tendonitis. KT tape provides support and pain relief before, during, and/or after an activity. KT tape-with the body’s ability to heal itself, can provide therapeutic relief to a variety of populations and diagnoses. It’s designed to mimic the skin’s elasticity so you can use your full range of motion. Kinesio Taping is an alternative treatment often used as a protective mechanism in the presence of an existing injury, it can be used to restrict movement or assist in promoting movement. It also can be used for soft tissue decompression in order to reduce swelling as well as allow for increased blood flow to damaged tissue in order to promote cellular repair.
Cupping
Myofascial cupping is a form of trigger point therapy and myofascial release. This therapy combines massage and stretching techniques with the use of pressurized cups. Soft tissue is suctioned inside the cups, allowing for fluid movement and nutrient supply to the tissues. The movement of fluid detoxifies, stimulates, and increases range of motion. The ultimate goal of this treatment is to promote an individual’s health by loosening soft tissue and increasing circulation.
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
Heart rate variability (HRV) is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is measured by the variation in the beat-to-beat interval. Using our inner balance trainer, that is attached wirelessly to the ear, we are able to promote coherence in the heart, mind and body with engagement of positive cognition and emotional processes. We are able to get a coherence heart rate reading via our app to get immediate feedback. These processes can be utilized by our skilled clinicians to reduce pain, reduce stress and anxiety, develop pacing skills, enhance pulmonary functional with deep breathing, and improve autonomic nervous system regulation to improve overall wellbeing and clinical performance.
Massage Therapy
Massage is the application of systematic manipulation to the soft tissues of the body for therapeutic purposes. Although various assistive devices and electrical equipment are available for the purpose of delivering massage, use of the hands is considered the most effective method of application, because palpation can be used as an assessment as well as a treatment tool. Massage therapy is a type of treatment in which a trained and certified medical professional manipulates the soft tissues of your body — muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin — using varying degrees of pressure and movement.
